Dementia Awareness Week 2017 at National Museums Liverpool

This week (15 – 21 May) is Dementia Awareness Week – an annual event organised by Alzheimer’s Society as an opportunity for everyone across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to unite against dementia.Current figures suggest that more than 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK and 550,000 are acting as primary carers. At National Museums Liverpool we understand the importance of recording and caring for people’s memories and we are passionate about enhancing the wellbeing of people living with dementia and their carers.

The online shop went live with the launch of our new, dementia-friendly House of Memories website in April.

We’re excited to have launched a new, dementia-friendly, House of Memories website.

House of Memories is National Museums Liverpool’s award-winning dementia awareness programme which offers training, access to resources, and museum-based activities to enable carers to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia.

As National Museums Liverpool’s flagship social impact project, House of Memories is an important part of making us an inclusive museums service.

The House of Memories team is celebrating St Patrick’s Day with the release of a special new theme featuring Irish related objects for the My House of Memories app.

Liverpool is a vibrant multi-cultural city with unique links to Ireland and a strong Irish community – in the early 19th Century more than 35,000 Irish emigrants settled in the city.

Take part in National Museums and Wellbeing Week 2017

The second ‘National Museums and Wellbeing Week’ is taking place from 6 – 12 March.

The National Alliance for Museums, Health and Wellbeing is coordinating the week and describes it as “an opportunity for museums to showcase their health and wellbeing offer and raise awareness of this valuable area of work.”

Galkoff's and the Secret Life of Pembroke Place update

The Galkoff’s and the Secret Life of Pembroke Place project team, along with 24 volunteers have been delving into the history of this well-known Liverpool Street. The focus has been on two key heritage sites: Galkoff’s Jewish butcher shop and Watkinson Terrace, Liverpool’s last surviving example of court housing.
