For the summer of 2018, House of Memories has developed a new range of seasonal ‘Sense of Summer’ memory baskets to enable carers and people living with dementia to enjoy sharing summer time memories together, and to stimulate communication about the past.

The items in the ‘Sense of Summer’ memory baskets have been inspired by the great outdoors in the summertime, bringing together items related to gardening, home-grown produce and summer picnics.

Inside the baskets, there are objects for reminiscence, garden-themed activities, and information about planning gardening and outdoors projects to improve the health and wellbeing of people living with dementia.

This December, National Museums Liverpool’s House of Memories team will be delivering a special gift to people living with dementia across the North West.

To celebrate we held a birthday party at the Museum of Liverpool – a special celebration afternoon for carers who have taken part in House of Memories, and their VIPS (the people they care for living with dementia).

A memory suitcase for Liverpool's LGBT+ community!

Through our House of Memories dementia awareness programme we aim to show people how to deliver a positive quality of life experience for people living with dementia.

There are thought to be more than 800,000 people in the UK living with dementia, each person with their own individual story, background, relationships, and care requirements.

As part of our memory suitcase loan service you can borrow a suitcase filled with images and objects to help you deliver a reminiscence session with someone living with dementia. By recognising that each person has an individual story we felt it was vitally important to offer a range of suitcases to reflect different experiences and lives lived.

HOP to it for pots of cash

Wouldn’t it be great if more older people could get involved in arts and culture as a means to leading happier, more fulfilled lives? In 2014, we created a network called HOP, which does just that.

HOP actually stands for Happy Older People, and it does exactly what it says on the tin! Joining forces with LightNight organisers Open Culture, we’ve produced and developed a network of organisations with the aim of finding new ways of working together to engage local older people in arts and culture.

We want to encourage other local organisations across the Liverpool City Region to apply for a new wave of funding we have available, to help older people feel less isolated through the enjoyment of arts and culture, meeting new people and learning new skills.
