Memories of London for people living dementia

If we were to say ‘Memories of London’, what would you think of? The answer would probably depend on whether you were a Londoner, or a visitor to the city. Dawn Carroll, House of Memories Relationship Programme Manager tells us more...

“Recently, we worked in partnership with the Museum of London to explore the type of memories an older person from London might recall, from the splendour of dining at Lyons’ Corner House in Piccadilly to more modest activities, such as ice skating on the pond at Hampstead Health. 

"Professional carers and families from across the City of London received House of Memories dementia awareness training on 5 November 2019 at the Museum of London and were the first to explore this brand new app content.

Unilever brands to support people living with dementia

In October, we launched a new partnership between National Museums Liverpool and Unilever. Together, we have developed new Unilever Archive content for the My House of Memories app, bringing these memorable brands to life for people living with dementia.

The app is a digital resource co-created by people living with dementia and their carers, to enable the sharing of memories using interesting everyday objects from the past. The number of items in the app is growing all the time as we work with new partners locally, nationally and internationally.

National Museums Liverpool takes House of Memories to Singapore

29 April 2019 marked a wonderful, historic moment for House of Memories, in helping us to support more people living with dementia, their families and caregivers internationally. On this day, National Museums Liverpool signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The British Council and National Heritage Board (NHB) to develop our House of Memories museum-led dementia awareness training programme, in Singapore.

'Highland Memories' supports people living with dementia in Highland

Over the past year House of Memories has been working with the Highland Museums Forum – a network of independent museums and visitor attractions that span the Highland’s 31,000 square kilometres of moors, mountains, towns and villages.

Dawn Carroll, Relationship Programme Manager for House of Memories tells us more: "You may remember that we took the House of Memories dementia awareness training day to Inverness in February 2018 to kick start our ‘Highland Memories’ project. Since then our colleagues at High Life Highland have been gathering objects and material from across the forum members to add to the My House of Memories app.

National Museums Liverpool to launch House of Memories in the US to help Americans to live well with dementia

National Museums Liverpool is delighted to partner with the Minnesota Historical Society, to launch the US version of our award-winning House of Memories dementia awareness programme on 24 September 2018, to help Americans to live well with dementia.
